HTC may be working on a 5-inch 1080p smartphone

Smartphones are getting a lot bigger these days and after the resounding success of the Galaxy Note, which was launched by Samsung last year, various smartphone manufacturers are preparing devices to compete with it. LG has recently announced that it will be launching the Optimus Vu for the global market and more recently Samsung too, has recently announced the second generation phablet called the Galaxy Note II. As per a report by The Verge, it looks like another major smartphone manufacturer is preparing a larger than average smartphone.

As per the report, the author, Dieter Bohn notes, “We’ve just come across a few images of an HTC Android device that looks like it could be a new hero phone for the manufacturer. Unfortunately, other than a particularly persistent rumor appearing to match up with these images, we don’t have a lot to go on. The red accents on the metal rails on the side are a Verizon-favorite for its HTC line of devices. There’s a Beats Audio logo too, plus a large sticker looks very much like what HTC has done on the One X (sealed battery and all).”

Commenting on the fact that this could be a large handset, the report states that a likely possibility is that this could be a 5-inch phone with a 1080p display. The report goes on to state, “The HTC6435LVW first appeared on a benchmarking site last month. It sported a 1.5GHz processor that outperformed a traditional Qualcomm S4 by a wide enough margin to make some wonder whether it might be based on a next-gen chip. It also had a display with 1794 x 1080 screen resolution, which could probably be rounded up to full 1080p if you assume the difference is HTC’s original implementation of the menu button on Android 4.0.”

HTC will be hosting a media event on the 19th of September and there is a good chance that this device may be showcased. The invitation for the press event gives no details about what HTC will announce, but it is speculated that the company will announce something that would compete with whatever Nokia announces at its press event today.

It can be speculated that the phone HTC may be announcing will be the HTC 8X, formerly known as the HTC accord. Recently, the phone’s manual was leaked and showed that the phone’s name will be HTC 8X. The leak of the manual also gives other information such as the position of the volume rocker and other external hardware features of the phone.

The phone seems to be running Windows 7.x in the pictures that were leaked a few days ago on Twitter, but there are speculations that the screenshot is of a much earlier render. The HTC Accord was first seen in June, along with two other phones, Zenith and Rio. The Accord is the middle child of the trio, with a screen size of 4.3 inches and a 720p Super LCD 2 display. Also onboard are a 1080p-capable 8MP camera sensor, 42Mbps HSPA+, NFC support and a whole gig of RAM. It is also rumoured that it may come with a MSM8260A SoC onboard.

Also, there could be a possibility that HTC may also announce the tablet that was leaked online a few days ago.
