HTC ‘Marlin’ could be the next 5.5-inch Nexus smartphone

Back in January, we heard that HTC would be making two Nexus smartphones for Google this year. Then in April, famous leakster Evan Blass confirmed that the two handsets are indeed real and will be codenamed Sailfish and Marlin. Now we have a set of leaked specifications of Marlin which are being claimed to be 90 percent accurate. The specs couldn’t have come at a better time. Just yesterday, Google confirmed that its upcoming Android N update will be officially called Nougat. Coming back to the Nexus device, Marlin will be the bigger and better Nexus out of the two and the leaks says that it will feature a 5.5-inch QHD (2560x1440) display which is smaller than last year’s Nexus 6P, but it probably won’t be an AMOLED panel. Inside there will be Snapdragon based quad-core processor with 4GB of RAM. the storage options would be 32GB and 128GB, leaving 64GB in the dark probably due to lesser sales of the 64-gig version of Nexus 6P. There will be a 12MP rear camera and an 8MP front snapper. Other features are said to include bottom firing speakers, USB Type-C, a fingerprint reader at the back, a 3,450mAH battery and of course Android Nougat. The SoC option could be a Snapdragon 820 or the upcoming Snapdragon 821/823 since they are configured on four cores. It is highly possible that the Sailfish, will only be a smaller version carrying an identical design and almost similar hardware except for the display and battery size. We expect more information to emerge until the handset go official later this year, so stay tuned.
