HTC Desire C officially launched in India for Rs.14,999

Taiwan-based smartphone manufacturer HTC has officially launched the HTC Desire C in India. Retailing for Rs.14,999, the phone features a 5 MP camera, Beats Audio and 3.5-inch HVGA screen. The phone has a metal-framed body, packs a powerful battery and is available in red, white and black. HTC has also revealed that an NFC-enabled variant of the model would be available, but its pricing was not mentioned.

As reported by Tech2 earlier, the Desire C will compete with phones, like the Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus and the Motorola Defy XT, which are in the same ball park. The Desire C looks every bit like the Explorer, in terms of design, except for the rear panel. The phone has a metal-framed body and packs a standard Li-Ion 1230 mAh battery. It features a capacitive 320x480 pixel touchscreen and will feature Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) with HTC’s Sense UI 4.0 on top. It supports Bluetooth 4.0 and has a flash-enabled browser.

In terms of what it brings to the table, the Desire C is similar to its predecessor, the Wildfire S, with the same 600MHz processor and 512 MB of RAM running the show. The same processor and newer software might mean that the phone’s performance could be on the sluggish side of things. Expect some lag when running resource-hungry apps. The Desire C is also a little bigger than the Wildfire S measuring 107.2 x 60.6 x 12.3 mm, but it’s quite lighter and slimmer than the Explorer at just 100gm.

The integration with Google services offers access to thousands of apps, games, music and movies that are available through Google Play store. The Desire C combines a durable metal frame with precision engineering that is ideal for those who want a premium-designed phone. Boasting a micro-drilled earpiece for sharp in-call sound, hyper-viewing angle display and metal camera bezel, this compact smartphone offers an unrivalled level of design and user-experience for its class. Through HTC Desire C’s deep integration of Dropbox and 25GB of free online space, you also have the freedom to securely back-up, browse and share thousands of photos, videos and documents, whether stored locally or in the cloud.

The HTC Desire C features a powerful, yet rich, studio-quality sound experience that is enabled through the combination of optimized Beats Audio and hardware. This integration enables a rich, clear audio experience to customers no matter if they’re listening to music or playing a game. Faisal Siddiqui, Country Manager, HTC India said, “The HTC Desire C offers customers excellent design, easy access to content and fast connectivity – making it the perfect all round device.”

Here are some of the specifications of the phone:

  • Android 4.0 - Ice Cream Sandwich with Sense UI
  • 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display with a 480 x 320 pixel resolution
  • 3G, EDGE/GPRS and Wi-Fi capabilities for net access
  • GPS with A-GPS support for Google Maps
  • Bluetooth v.4.0 with A2DP and USB 2.0 (Micro)
  • 5MP camera
  • FM radio
  • 4GB internal + microSD card support for up to 32GB more memory
