HTC Bliss strikes a pose for the camera

After some blurry photos of the HTC Bliss surfacing earlier this month, we now have a much clearer idea of what this new phone will look like and to be honest, it’s quite disappointing. The new design is not exactly inspired and it looks a bit dated when propped up against the Desire S. Also, there’s just too much bezel around the screen and what’s with the double chin? That extra fold points to a slide-out QWERTY keyboard but as far as we are aware, the Bliss won’t be sporting it. I’m sure the female audiences HTC’s trying to capture won’t appreciate that.

The internals are nothing to shout about either. The Bliss will be powered by a Qualcomm MSM7x30 processor running at 800MHz and Adreno 205 GPU. The exact model number of the chip is unknown; it could either be the MSM7230 or the MSM7630. This is still going to be slow and won’t be able to power (what appears to be) a 3.7-inch screen. It will run Gingerbread 2.3 of course but whether it will support Ice Cream Sandwich is yet to be seen.

On the bright side, the Bliss will feature HTC’s spanking new Sense 3.5 UI, which unfortunately none of the leaked pictures show. If the new UI is optimized well, then perhaps the slower CPU won’t really matter after all. We could expect to see more of the Bliss at HTC’s event which kicks off on the 1st of September in London.
