HTC 10 and LG G5 not compliant with USB Type-C specification: Google engineer

Google engineer Benson Leung has stated that high-end smartphones such as the HTC 10 and LG G5 are at risk as these devices are  Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0 certified, which invariably makes them USB-C non-compliant. Leung said, “This is the first C-to-C cable I have reviewed, and it’s one that does A LOT of different functions. Excuse the length of this review. I tested with 3 different chargers, one of them actually an external display dock with a 4K screen. The cable allowed the Pixel 2 to charge itself, while displaying 4K60hz video out and accessing the USB hub on the monitor over a single cable. Woot!” It is believed that the USB Type-C was tested with non-proprietary charging at 5V and was found safe to use. However, increasing the volts might end up harming the device. One drawback of using Quick Charge on USB Type-C is that users are not able to use a data connection at the same time. In the past, Leung had also stated that OnePlus Type-C adapter may damage devices because of potential fault. In a Google+ post he says that one shouldn’t buy the cheap Onelus  USB Type-C adapter for Chromebook Pixel as well as Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X because it uses the wrong identifier resistor. He further states that OnePlus accessories are not compliant to specifications. “Having a weaker than 3A charger is actually a risk factor because the device being charged will always try to charge at 3A and if the older adapter can’t handle 3A, that is when it might be damaged,” Leung writes when responding to a comment.
