Hewlett- Packard (HP) has tied up with MTV networks to offer a new service for Iinternet users across the globe, to network with people online and possibly even meet each other. The new site called ‘Meet or Delete’ will allow users to state their preferences in their user profiles to meet people with similar mindsets. The service, themed, ’the computer is personal again’, is aimed at a generation that uses computers, not just for work, but also as an extension of its personality.
Users of ‘Meet or Delete’ will be able to access profiles of web users across the globe, to find people with similar tastes and even meet them via the MTV platform. It is different from other social networking sites like Orkut, thanks to the element of reality in it. The users will be able to meet face to face on the MTV ‘Meet or Delete’ show, which will be aired for the first time in India, on October 9, 2006.
HP senior VP global marketing for the personal systems group Satjiv Chahil says, “We are delighted to join with MTV, working together at the forefront of the entertainment industry to meet the emerging demand for more personal, digital content that is always available, always connected. HP is the one company with the digital expertise to simplify the entire digital entertainment experience, making access to personal content - through any medium, using any device, at any time - a reality.”
The venture is part of HP’s campaign to personalize the digital experience for users. The PC manufacturer will also launch customized skins for their range of laptops in the near future.
