HP launches ultra-thin Chromebook 13 for home and office use

HP launches the all metal Chromebook13, an ultra-thin portable laptop.


HP just launched the Chromebook 13, an ultra-thin laptop for home and office use. The device was designed based on inputs and insights from customers, about their expectations from a new Chromebook device. The ultra portable laptop is made up of an all-metal brushed anodised aluminum body, that looks sleek and modern.

The device is powered by the mobility focused sixth generation Intel Core m processor, which is considerably economical with battery use. The device has 16GB of RAM, which allows for some amount of shift from mobility based use to productivity based use. The 13.3 inch QHD display is an IPS panel that shows 3200 x 1800 pixels at a time. The device is less than 13mm thick, and weighs a shade less than 1.3 kilograms.

The battery runs for over 11 hours, and uses an increased density of chemicals in the battery. However, the performance of the battery falls with repeated use. The USB-C charging port supports high speed charging, and also supports charging from a mobile charger. The laptop can also be charged using a normal phone charger, but this is not included in the box.

Lucid Sleep is an optional feature available on some models of the laptop. In this mode, the laptop automatically downloads and syncs documents, updates, emails and notifications and keeps them ready. As soon as the user gets back to the machine, these do not take time to load. There are also a host of features that will appeal to the security conscious, including encryption, verified boot and application sandboxing.

The Chromebook 13 is available with custom configurations. The base price is US $499.
