How Easy is it to Fool Google Goggles?

Augmented reality is the hot stuff right now and with the addition of Word Lens , Google Goggles already has a competitor. Google’s been releasing Demo Slam videos where they demonstrate how their products work and this one’s a personal favourite.

How do you like them goggles

A bunch of guys (we reckon they’re Google employees going by the excited nerd factor) dress up as a pretty iconic landmark, Mount Rushmore and try to see if Goggles will pick it up. The first attempt was clearly unsuccessful as you’ll see in the video. With the addition of trees and other minute details, Goggles successfully recognized the image as Mount Rushmore. Clearly, you can’t fool Goggles without every little detail and it’s a precise little service. I’m looking forward to the day Goggles will be able to recognize and tell the difference between big mountains like Everest and K2.

Paddy does not, we repeat, definitely does NOT belong in the category of Mac-head (yeh right!). She does get excited by her iPhone and her iMac and her iPod Nano and her Macbook and Bali's iPad and her future iHouse (patent pending). Ok, so maybe her head is a little bit forbidden fruit shaped. She likes shooting video (iPhone 4 camera zindabad!) and editing montages (Final Cut Pro zindabad!), whether the scene calls for it or no. In her spare time, she's either kicking it on stage with KB the keyboard or kicking butt at Taekwondo. see more
