Developer Dennaton Games has announced on the PlayStation Blog that its fast-paced top-down game, Hotline Miami, is finally making its way to the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Vita. While North American gamers will be getting it tomorrow, the rest of the world will have to wait till Wednesday to get their hands on it. The game is set to cost £7.29/€8.99/$9.99 (approximately Rs 600), depending on your region.
The new mask lets you play the game in black and white
The game is a Cross Buy title, meaning that if you buy a copy on the PlayStation 3, you’ll get a copy for the PlayStation Vita at no additional charge. The PlayStation version of the game is also getting some new features, including a black and white texture mode which is activated when wearing the new bull mask, named Russell. The PlayStation Vita version of the game also has support for touch-based lock-on.
The first game was released back in October last year. Gameplay of Hotline Miami is simple. It has a top-down view where you can see your character and the environment. The goal is to clear all the levels by killing everyone. This is done by either going up to enemies to smash their face, or by getting your hands on a weapon. This is made fun thanks to the one-hit-kill mechanics of the game. Everyone, the main character included, can die in one hit.
By black and white, we actually mean black and white, and red
The game was praised by critics not only because of its addictive fast-paced but methodical gameplay, but also for its storyline. The rather confusing plot of Hotline Miami revolves around a hitman who is forced to confront his past and remember all of the missions he had done and all the people he had killed. This is made confusing because of the conflicting narrators and sudden shifts in gameplay mechanics at certain points of the game.
The developers are currently working on a sequel, dubbed Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number.
