HMD Global renews Nokia’s ‘Xpress-on’ trademark; swappable covers for the Nokia 3310 could be on their way

**HMD Global** has just renewed the ‘Xpress-on’ trademark. This trademark was quite popular at one time because **Nokia** made custom covers for its smartphones that users could change on the go. [caption id=“attachment_3868473” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]Image Courtesy: HMD Global Image Courtesy: HMD Global[/caption] This would be convenient for users who would want to change and experiment with new looks for their devices to express themselves. To recap, the new covers not only brought new colours, but also added functionality like GPS, as pointed by NokiaPowerUser in a report. The older covers are still available on e-commerce websites such as eBay and Amazon. According to the trademark definition, the new trademark will be related to accessories such as “microphones, speakers, coloured covers, housings, cases, antennas, batteries, battery chargers”. This new trademark is set to expire on 29 January 2028. HMD Global has not issued any official statement on the renewal of the trademark and its plans with the newly acquired trademark. So, it is yet to be seen what the company is planning to use this for. This is the fourth trademark that **HMD** owns at the time of writing apart from “HMD Global”, “Tarmo”, and “Asha”.  A report by NokiaMob pointed to an interesting shell by the name of ‘Xpress-On fun’ which allowed users to display text in the air with the help of light painting while waving the phone with the shell on.
