Google is yet to announce its next version of Android which may be safely referred to as Android P. HMD Global, the owners of the Nokia brand have announced that all of its 2017 smartphones will be receiving the Android P update as well once it arrives.
While this may sound like a bit optimistic since Google just recently announced Android 8.0 Oreo, it surely would come across as good news for Nokia fans across the world. According to a report by Trusted Reviews, the announcement came at a launch event in the Philippines where Country Manager, HMD Global, Shannon Mead, stated that all existing Nokia 8, 6, 5, as well as the Nokia 3, will be upgraded to Android P.
HMD Global had earlier announced that the Nokia 3, 5, 6 and 8 smartphones would receive an Android 8.0 Oreo update which has been forthcoming but is confirmed to arrive on all the devices by the end of the year. The confirmation would essentially confirm Android updates for all Nokia users for at least another two years.
The announcement will also work as a major incentive for the Nokia brand with most major smartphone manufacturers offering updates for up to two years only on higher-end devices.
HMD Global recently launched its flagship Nokia 8 smartphone in India for a price of Rs 36,999. The phone features a Nokia's 'Bothie', which uses both the front and rear cameras to record an image or a video.
