It might be a while before the good folks at Facebook finally decide to release an Instagram app for Windows Phone users. However, Hipstamatic’s Oggl can play a good enough role by providing minimal Instagram support to Windows Phone 8 users.
The Windows Phone 8 version of the application landed into the Windows Phone store back in May, along with the launch of the Nokia Lumia 925. Hipstamatic has now released a PRO version of the application exclusively for Nokia 1020 owners.
The photo-editing application for the 41 megapixel camera sporting Lumia 1020 remains the same overall, with some added features for the application, including being able to adjust white balance, ISO and shutter speed.
Oggl is the closest you can get to Instagram on Windows Phone 8
The updated Oggl for Windows Phone 8 will now not just let you edit and add hipster filters to your images, you will now be able to share images on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram too. While support for Instagram is a great new thing for Oggl, you can only upload images to your account using the app. You will still not be able to see images shared by your friends and like or comment on them. So, if you were looking for a complete Instagram experience, you’re probably in for disappointment.
Even as the application was updated yesterday, the review pages are filled with comments indicating the app is not working too well right now. Some users are complaining about being unable to get past the login screen while some say that the app keeps crashing. There is a lot of grumbling over the app’s condition, especially since the free app allows a 60-day limited trial version. Going forward, users will have to shell out $2.99 quarterly or $9.99 yearly to gain access to Hipstamitic’s entire catalogue of lenses and film gear.
Hipstamatic has also updated Oggl for iOS, pushing it to version 1.2. The updated app brings along photo browsing enhancements like tapping on hashtags to view more images with the same tag, tapping on handles to view profiles, viewing more images in a particular location and more. There is also improvement on the sharing front with auto-tagging images while sharing on Twitter or Instagram as well as being able to see like and comments from other social networking websites within your photo library.
The updated iOS app also ensures that you can use the advanced option of “Save every version” for edited images and log in using your username. You can get hold of Oggl by Hipstamatic for your iOS devices from the App Store.
The app is available for Windows Phone 8 devices from the Windows Phone Store. You can also download the PRO version of Oggl by Hipstamatic for your Nokia Lumia 1020 from the store.
