HCL Infosystems has tied up with Apple Computers to distribute iPods and Apple desktops in India. As per the strategic agreement, HCL will be in charge of all sales and support for Apple in the country.
The iPod will be formally launched by HCL in phases and will first be available in the metros. The IT company plans to make iPods available to Indians, within the price range of Rs 4000 and Rs 23,000.
Ajai Chowdhry, chairman and CEO of HCL Infosystems, has announced that they will be providing warranty, accessory, sales and support for the iPods in most cities in India. This involves setting up distribution, logistics and service networks to make sure the Apple products are available in music shops, consumer electronic stores, format stores and other retail channels.
In addition, HCL will be launching an entertainment portal called HCLLive.in, containing more than 25,000 tracks for download on the iPod, desktops and phones at Rs 5 per download.
