Harlem Shake to The Fox: The videos that rocked YouTube in 2013

It’s an universally acknowledged fact that the average Internet netizen spends half his/her time on YouTube. Ok we just made that up, but there’s no denying that we all spend a LOT of time on YouTube. According to YouTube’s own statistics :

* More than 1 billion unique users visit YouTube each month
* Over 6 billion hours of video are watched each month on YouTube - that’s almost an hour for every person on Earth, and 50 percent more than last year
* 100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute

And get this: 80 percent of all YouTube views come from outside the US. That’s right. We’re looking at you.

But despite all this clutter, there are a few videos every year, which take on lives of their own and go crazy viral.

Given the sheer volume of content on YouTube, the shelf life of viral videos are quite short, because they are soon replaced by the next ‘oh my god you HAVE to watch this’ video. So its nice that YouTube compiles a list for us every year reminding us about what amused and entertained us every year.

The video above is a remix of the years most popular YouTube videos, featuring a few familiar faces. Not all of them may be familiar to you, so for easy reference, here is YouTube’s list of its top ten videos. (You know you want to Google and watch the ones you have not seen right NOW)
