Hanx Writer: Tom Hanks' app brings the typewriter experience to the iPad

Miss the unique typing style of typewriters from the years gone by? Apparently Hollywood star Tom Hanks does and that's why he decided to create an app called Hanx Writer that brings the typewriting style to modern on-screen keyboards.

Just like any other typewriting app, the Hanx Writer aims to give you the feel of typing on a typewriter. "With Hanx Writer, you'll hear the rhythm of your work with SHOOK SHOOK or FITT FITT", Tom Hanks is quoted as saying in the press release. Unlike modern keyboards, typewriters lack the delete button, which the app tacitly points out saying "No longer must you surrender to modern luxuries like the DELETE key."

You can email, print and share documents that you create with the free app. The app was released yesterday and it has already has over 600 downloads and a 4-star rating. The app is available only for iPads on the Apple App Store.

In order to promote the app, Apple invited users on Twitter to a live Q&A session with Tom Hanks. Thereafter, a series of #HanxWriter tweets were posted by the actor including one where he poses with his laptop while answering questions during the live Q&A.

Tom Hanks isn't the first celebrity to bring their persona to the world of mobile apps. Canadian actor, director William Shatner launched 'Shatoetry', through which users can choose words of varying intonations, recorded by Shatner, and string them together to create a bizarre poem. The app was launched on both iOS and Android.

Kim Kardashian's 'Kim Kardashian: Hollywood' app is an interactive game, which lets you create your own celebrity who encounters other celebs, dedicated fans and a persistent paparazzi.
