Ouya has released a rather strange new ad for its $99 Android-based console. According to Eurogamer, the ad originally went up on the company’s official YouTube channel earlier, but has since been pulled. Before it was pulled, however, NeoGAF user Wario64 managed to archive it on to their channel. Check it out:
In the surreal ad, a gamer is staring at a box of his newly-bought copy of ‘Medal of Duty 12’. Shortly after this, he begins to get quite angry about the fact that he essentially paid $60 for the same game over and over again. This leads to him vomiting. Some time later, with the living room covered in his vomit, the gamer pulls out his spine from his mouth and beats himself on his head with the vertebrae. The strange ad is quite reminiscent of classic cartoons like Ren and Stimpy.
Later, Ouya revealed to Eurogamer that it wanted to “get feedback” from users and was not meant to be a permanent addition to the company’s YouTube channel. According to Ouya’s statement to Eurogamer, “We are experimenting with animated content and posted this video briefly to get feedback from our community. Stay tuned for our official video!”
The Ouya ad is a bit confusing, to say the least
Needless to say, the unanimous reaction to the video has been quite confused. Some even go as far as to say that any of Ouya’s 100+ free-to-try games aren’t as good as the copy of ‘Medal of Duty 12’ shown in the ad. The console does have a couple of games going for it, though, especially the recent co-op multiplayer game Towerfall. Check out our review of Ouya.
