While Grand Theft Auto IV may still take a while to hit stands, the much awaited teaser trailer is nearly upon us. Where will it take place? Will it be set in the past, present or future? How good will it look? All such questions and more would hopefully be answered by March 29th, but till then all we can do is wait and watch… and wish.
Keeping that in mind here’s a small wish list of features we hope make it to the next gen version of Grand Theft Auto IV; now some of them may be unreal to implement while some may not be practical but even if a few of these make it to the final product we’ll be more then happy.
This is a popular topic amongst forums so if you see some of your ideas pop up here don’t get your panties in a wad since we’re all gamers here and we do think alike to a certain extent; however if there’s something you wish to add, go ahead and knock yourself out.
No more flying
Yeah that’s right, I positively hate flying in all GTA games and the fact that I’m forced to complete such missions to progress just makes me hate it all the more. Look at the name of the game, it’s called Grand Theft Auto so why is there the need to shove in planes or helicopters or anything that doesn’t keep me firmly rooted to the ground?
Should be non linear and should offer unprecedented freedom
Sure the GTA games offer players a certain amount of free roaming but you can’t progress after a certain point in time if you don’t complete certain missions. This should be removed so if I want to go through the entire game without working for anyone, I should be able to do so; may not make a lot of sense, but it still beats undertaking annoying missions from annoying people.
While San Andreas did allow you to go nearly anywhere, free roaming in GTA IV should extend to entering buildings and other random structures as well. Even your base/home/crib shouldn’t just be a place where you can save your game or change your clothes; you should be able to kick back, watch some TV, listen to some music, entertain your friends (ahem!) and above all it should be customizable.
Better guns
The next GTA game definitely needs a better arsenal; I’m not saying the variety found in previous games was bad but all of them sounded like pea-shooters and even the ones that could decapitate a man with a single shot just didn’t pack a punch. I want something that’s on par with games like Black where the guns are the stars of the show and not only do they look awesome but they should sound like the real thing.
Bullet time
It’s time the GTA series got this mechanics since not only does it look cool but if timed well can even bail you out of tight spots. Can you imagine running over pedestrians or beating hookers to death with a club in slow mo?
Meaningful Boss fights
Yeah cool I understand I won’t get a Shadow of the Colossus or a God of War kind of boss fight with every game but how about making them a lot more cinematic and meaningful rather than shoot shoot shoot, reload, shoot shoot shoot , take cover, shoot shoot shoot reload and so on. I hope we never and I mean NEVER get anything like Crackdown’s boss fights ever again.

Multiplayer mode
I think we’d all agree that a multiplayer mode in a GTA game would be… f****g on! Imagine teaming up with a couple of friends to organize a drive by or just heading head first into enemy territory to seize it from under their hands or imagine a vast MMO world like Word of Warcraft…
Create your own character
Everyone has their own tastes and preferences so why not let them play with their own fully customized character? I mean if EA could do it with The Godfather, I’m sure Rockstar can take it to the next level with GTA IV.
Natural disasters
In GTA games you keep hearing about how certain areas have been cordoned off due to hurricanes but how about letting the player experience the perils of a natural disaster first hand? Imagine you’re making your way to a mission when bam! you’re hit by a tornado and both you and your vehicle are sent spiraling through the air and you’ll have to successfully complete a context sensitive mini game to make it out alive.
Complete annihilation
Not that I can ever get bored of blowing up vehicles but how about giving us the freedom to blow up nearly any structure we see fit so instead of entering a building and clearing up floor after floor of enemies, we get the necessary firepower and bow the entire building up.
Robust fighting system
I know GTA games are all about driving and shooting but maybe for GTA IV, Rockstar could include a brutal fighting system similar to Def Jam Fight for New York. And if possible Rockstar could even allow players to perform finishing moves like snapping necks breaking backs or using the environment in a bunch of innovative ways.
