Grand Theft Auto 5 breaks seven Guinness World records

Grand Theft Auto 5 is proving to be one of the biggest games of the year less than a month after its release. Guinness World Records announced that GTA 5’s launch broke quite a few records—seven, to be precise—including the highest revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours and the fastest entertainment property to gross $1 billion.

It isn’t surprising, considering all the hype that was built around the game up to its launch. It also helps that since we are almost at the end of this generation of consoles, the number of people owning an Xbox 360 or a PlayStation 3 is the highest it has ever been.

When it was released, GTA5 managed to make $800 million on the first day itself. Three days later, Rockstar had announced that the game made more than $1 billion.

Back when gamers were still counting down the days to GTA5’s release, reports had popped up saying that with a rumoured development cost of $250 million, which made it the most expensive game ever developed, Rockstar managed to break even the game’s cost through nothing but pre-orders.
