An iPod is meant for portable music, that goes without saying. However, there can still be times when you just want to listen to music without the hassle of wires dangling from your ears. The S715i iPod dock ended being a clear winner in this category simply because of the performance it delivers. The small size of Logitech’s S715i does not hinder the kind of sound that it churns out. This iPod dock has six drivers in the front and the two that sit behind are the woofers that generate some thumping bass. True that the remote can put you off with its lack of functionality, but that won’t matter once you play a track. The price of Rs. 8000 shouldn’t stop you from buying this, as it’s clearly worth every single penny spent on it!

Altec Lansing MIX iMT800 – First Runner up

Altec Lansing has been out there making good quality speakers for quite a while now. The MIX iMT800 is no different. These speakers look awesome, it will definitely remind you of the boombox of yesteryears. Despite the way it’s built, the iMT800 is portable and light-weight. The sound quality is very beautiful and the iMT800 comes with a seven band equalizer so you can customize the sound to your ears. It also has two aux ports so you can plug in any other mp3 player to it. Lastly, you are certain to look cool carrying it around! All this for a price of Rs. 20,000 looks very good for such a good quality product.

JBL On Stage Micro – Second Runner Up

The On Stage Micro comes in a small package and doesn’t leave your wallet with a big cavity. It also has a USB port for other devices and an Aux port for media players apart from the iPod. The sound quality is pretty decent too but starts distorting when the volume is maxed out. At a price of Rs. 4990 you won’t have to rob a bank to buy this, plus it also carries the JBL tag.

Pat it, cuddle it or dance with it

This cute little iPod dock which doubles-up as a dancing soft toy is one iPod dock which you ought to have. Well if not for the music then maybe for the jig that the pet performs! The speakers sound alright although they distorts at max volume. Apart from that, the line-in lets you connect it to other audio mp3 players as well. At a price of Rs. 6750 it’s expensive but can be a worthy gift for your kid or even your better half!

That pretty much sums up the GOTY list for iPod docks in 2010. We are all looking forward to see what 2011 has in store for portable music and we just hope it won’t be too disappointing.
