Wearable camera maker GoPro named Apple designer Daniel Coster as vice president of design, effective the end of April.

Coster was a core member of Apple's industrial design team for more than 20 years and is credited with contributing to devices such as iPhone 4 and iPad wireless keyboard, the company said in a statement.

GoPro has faced increasing competition from enhanced video-shooting capabilities of Apple's iPhone 6 range.

GoPro shares rose 16.3 percent to 13.58 on the Nasdaq on Wednesday.

Recently, Periscope announced integration with GoPro, which would allow users to broadcast to their followers, from an action camera for the first time. As soon as a GoPro is paired with an iPhone, it will recognise the Periscope app and let users record and share their current surroundings with the audience.

According to a report by TheVerge, the integration raises interesting possibilities for surfers, skiers, snowboarders, and other athletes, as well as anyone who enjoys filming with a GoPro mounted on a drone.

The integration currently works on iOS with the GoPro Hero 4 Black and Hero 4 Silver respectively. Periscope users can also toggle the camera back and forth between the iPhone view and the GoPro view, while they continue to see the on-screen chat on their smartphones.
