Google's Nexus launch event today: Here's what we expect

We are just a couple of hours away from **Google's event** where the search giant is expected to unveil quite a few products which include two new Nexus smartphones, an updated Chromecast along with a brand new 10.2-inch tablet too! A few also believe that Google might introduce new features for Android 6.0 Marshmallow and also for their payment service Android Pay. Let’s take a look at what we can expect to see at Google’s big event. 1. Nexus 6P  The Nexus 6P, manufactured by Huawei, is expected to be the more premium of the two new Nexus devices. Rumours suggest that the smartphone will sport a 5.7-inch QHD screen translating to 2560 x 1440 pixels, a metal body, Snapdragon 820 SoC and a fingerprint reader. The device will have an internal storage of up to 128GB as well. In addition, it may sport Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on the display for added durability. It will weigh around 178 grams which is lighter than the 184 grams Nexus 6. As expected, the phone is expected to sport the USB Type-C connector for charging and data transfer.  According to recent reports, pre-orders for the new Nexus smartphone will also begin on 29 September, and is expected to be priced at $499.99 for the 32GB version. The smartphone will also be available in 64GB and 128GB storage variants. It will be available for pre-order in the U.S., UK, Ireland, Canada, and Japan. The latter is reportedly getting exclusivity on the Gold colour variant too. 2. Nexus 5X Rumoured specifications for the second Nexus smartphone by LG include a 3D camera along with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset. The device will be offered in 5.2 inches and will be 146.9mm high, 72.9mm wide and 8mm thick. On the camera front, it is expected to come with a 12.3MP sensor and a front-facing 5MP sensor. The device will be made available in 16GB and 32GB models. It is also rumoured to include a USB Type C port and a 2700mAh battery. [caption id=“attachment_282982” align=“aligncenter” width=“600”]  Image: Android Police[/caption]   Pre-orders for Google’s Nexus 5X (16GB variant) will start as early as 29 September, the same day as the phone’s announcement, and is expected to be priced at $379.99 (approximately Rs 25,200). It is said to be available in the US, UK, Korea, Japan, and Ireland. 3. Android 6.0 Marshmallow  But what will add that extra zest to Google’s new smartphones? Naturally, the company will introduce the new Android iteration to its Nexus devices. We are also hoping to see Google roll out the new OS to many more devices. This new update is said to bring out bug fixes and improvements to the previous Android version – Lollipop. Android Marshmallow introduces new app permissions, custom Chrome Tabs, fingerprint support and improved power management. 4. Android Pay  Google had stated this month it would roll out Android Pay, a one-touch payment app on Android devices, in more than 1 million locations in the United States. As the company had **claimed** before, Google might announce the availability of this service in more locations and might also introduce new features to the payment service as well. 5. Chromecast (2nd gen)  Along with new Nexus smartphones, a brand new Chromecast hardware is also set for debut at the Google event. In terms of design, the new hardware will be completely different from the older Chromecast. It will no longer be a dongle form factor. The Chromecast has been one of Google’s all-time most successful devices, but it hasn’t seen an update in quite a while. We hope to see Google introduce some new features and updates with this device to be a strong competitor in the media-streaming service market. It is expected to launch in at least 10 countries. 6. Google Pixel C  Soon after Apple launched the 12.9-inch iPad Pro aimed at enterprise, Google is likely to pull the wraps off the 10.2-inch tablet called Pixel C with a detachable keyboard. Yes, a large tablet with a detachable keyboard, we popularly know as hybrid! Interestingly, the device will not be running Chrome OS. Unlike the first two Pixel devices, the C will be an Android-powered device. The device might launch in November but there is a high chance that the company might unveil this new product during today’s Nexus event.
