Google's Nexus 10 tablet, Nexus 4 smartphone: All you need to know

Google unveiled a 10-inch Nexus tablet and the new Nexus 4 smartphone in an event in San Francisco. Here’s a quick look at the tech specifications of Google’s new products.

Google's Nexus 10 tablet, Nexus 4 smartphone: All you need to know

Late last night (India time), Google unveiled the latest addition to its flagship Nexus line, namely a 10-inch Nexus tablet and the new Nexus 4 smartphone at an event in SanFrancisco. The original event in New York was cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy.

Here’s a quick look at the tech specifications of Google’s new products.

**Google Nexus-10 inch tablet:**This tablet is co-manufactured with Samsung and has a 10-inch screen with the highest screen resolution as far as tablets are concerned. The screen resolution is 2560 x 1600 which comes to 300 pixels per inch beating the iPad 3 and 4’s Retina Display.

The Nexus 10 has a pair of front-facing stereo speakers on either side of the display, an 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1.9-megapixel front camera for video chat. It also comes with a dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM and will be available in 16GB and 32 GB space version.

The device supports NFC (Near Field Communication) and has a micro-HDMI port.

The device ships with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean where Google has introduced new features like a new gesture typing keyboard similar to Swype which is available on Samsung devices, as well as panorama photo support. No Key-Lime Pie yet for Android fans, though this was expected.

The devices will go on sale on 13 November (India is not yet on the list). The 16GB version starts at $400 while 32GB is at $500.

**Google Nexus 4 smartphone:**This one is co-manufactured with LG and the rumour mills were right all along. This phone is essentially the Optimus G smartphone with Google branding. The OS is Android 4.2 version of Jelly Bean.

The device has a 4.7-inch screen with 1280768 resolution, True HD and IPS (In Panel Switching), and an 8-megapixel autofocus camera instead of the 13 megapixel version in the Optimus G. The device has Qualcomm’s quad-core processor which is clocked at 1.5Ghz along with 2GB RAM.

The phone will be available in 8GB and 16GB versions with no Micro-sd card slot. The device supports NFC, and Bluetooth 4.0. No support for LTE for now but has an an unlocked pentaband DC-HSPA+ (High Speed Packet Access which comes to 42Mbps).

The device releases on 13 November. The 8GB version is for $299 while the 16GB version is for $349.

Google also released an upgraded version of the **Nexus 7.**The$199 version now has 16GB space while there’s another 32GB version with 3G for $299. Wi-Fi only 32GB Nexus 7 will cost $249.
