Google's new Gmail quick action buttons add Vimeo, Dropbox and Seamless integration

If you look closely at your Gmail inbox, you will notice there are some actions the service allows you to perform even without having to open up the particular mail. These quick action buttons are going to be expanded by Google now to let you perform even more actions like viewing videos and offers.

The feature was added to Gmail earlier in May this year, and allowed you to check-in to flights and send in RSVPs to appointments simply by looking at the subject of the mail. Interestingly, you could also accept friend requests via notifications that landed into your inbox for services like Foursquare.

Google is now rolling this feature out for wider purposes. You can now rate and review restaurants on Seamless and view your OpenTable reservations. Google Offers has also now been added to the buttons and you can save offers from it. More importantly, you will now be able to view videos on YouTube and Vimeo right from the inbox, if you’ve just uploaded one.

Similarly, you can also view Google Docs, Sheets and Slides that have been shared with you from the inbox. In a really interesting move, Google will also allow you to open up a Dropbox folder straight from your inbox. “We’re continuing to add even more buttons to make it easier for you to get things done in Gmail,” writes Claudio Cherubino, Developer Programs Engineer at Google in a blog post announcing these features.

Right from your inbox

Right from your inbox

A lot of developers seem to now be sitting up and taking note of this very impressive feature that lets you interact with a service straight from the subject line of the inbox. Hopefully, we’ll see more services like Facebook, Twitter and other sites helping us with quick actions such as replies to Direct Messages and approving tags from the Gmail inbox.

Her focus is on all the happening stuff in the tech domain, and she won't hesitate to take a shot at some of the oddball devices that make their way to our labs. see more
