Google’s '$100 million man' Neal Mohan expected to move to Dropbox

Neal Mohan, long-time Product Head at DoubleClick and VP of Display Advertising is reportedly leaving the company to take on a role of Head of Product at Dropbox. The new job offered to him seems to fill in the shoes for Ilya Fushman, who recently moved to Index Ventures as a partner. According to a report by Re/Code, Mohan would be ’taking over at Dropbox at an interesting time, as it seeks to expand its enterprise business and also mulls its next funding options’. It would be a rather interesting entry for Mohan as Dropbox does not do ads and his specialty revolves around advertising. According to a report by Tech Crunch, at one point, Sundar Pichai and Neal Mohan were offered the chief product role at Twitter back in 2011 but Google, offered Pichai $50 million and Mohan $100 million in stock to continue their role in the company and of course, they did. Twitter wasn’t the only one who tried to snatch Mohan away from Google. According to a report by Business Insider, a former senior executive at Facebook said that he tried to lure Mohan over to the comany as well. Another source close to Mohan has said that he gets notes from competitors all the time too. The ‘$100 million’ man joined Google back in 2008 when an ad company called DoubleClick was acquired by Google. He was the SVP Strategy and Product Management here. The report points out that Mohan worked under Susan Wojcicki who left the company to become a partner at YouTube. Although Mohan did not leave but worked really close with her and hence, many people inside the company thought that he had moved over there. Mohan also made a lot of the strategic acquisitions at Google including Invite Media, Teracent and Admeld. Neal Mohan might be the latest person to quit the search engine. Google’s Motorola unit leader Dennis Woodside left for Dropbox too. In the past, Comms and policy head Rachel Whetstone left for Uber as well as commerce point person Sameer Samat moved to Jawbone.
