Google Year in Search: FIFA 2018, Bigg Boss, Priya Prakash were the biggest trends in India

Priya Prakash Varrier became the most searched personality on Google in 2018.

With 2018 coming to an end, Google did a little rewind of its search trends to see what Indians were the most curious about this year.

Google India has announced its 'Year in Search' results, and according to it, sports and entertainment dominated the top trending charts in India.

Apparently, the most popular queries from Indians were about FIFA World Cup 2018 and Indian Premier League (IPL). Do pay attention to the fact that a sport other than cricket was actually more popular in something among Indians.

Priya Prakash Varrier.

Following these two trends though, were queries around Karnataka elections. Interestingly (or not), Bigg Boss turned out to be the top choice when it came to entertainment this year, surpassing queries related to the Rajinikanth/Akshay blockbuster 2.0. Also making it to the list were searches for children’s entertainment shows ‘Baalveer’ and ‘Motu Patlu'.

In entertainment, Indians also searched quite a bit about Baaghi 2 and Race 3, Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther, and Deadpool 2.

But here's where this gets better, the most searched personalities that took prominence this year were Priya Prakash Varrier, who topped the list for her ‘wink’ that went viral, followed by Priyanka Chopra and her spouse, Nick Jonas.

The interest in royal weddings also spiked among Indians in 2018 as American actor turned Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle figured in the list of most-searched-for personalities.

In other news though, besides all the celebrity weddings like Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Kapoor, and Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja, Indians also had a lot of questions about the Statue of Unity (obviously. I still have a lot of queries on that), the striking down of Section 377, the union budget, bitcoin, as well as the Nipah virus.
