Google announced the new Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones a few weeks back. While it was being said that some of the features will be exclusive, we already got a taste of the Pixel launcher before the phones even launched. Another app from the Pixel smartphones is now at your disposal as Google has officially put the Wallpapers app on the Play Store. It is the same app which was bundled with the leaked Pixel launcher APK, however you don’t need to have the launcher any more. The app can be used on almost any Android device. We have tested it on the Nexus 6P as well as the Xiaomi Redmi 3S and we can confirm that it works fine. The app is not that exciting, although you do get a collection of some great looking images in five categories. The app also integrates any other third party wallpaper app you have on your phone as well as your saved images. Smartphones running on Android Nougat also get an option to select separate images for the homescreen and the lock screen. Here is a link to the app. The rollout of the app gives us an indication that Google might consider to release the Pixel launcher for other devices as well. The same happened last year when it had launched the Google Now launcher which was exclusive to Nexus smartphones. It later pushed the app to the Play Store.
