Google showcases how much Chrome has improved in a year

Getting more out of a laptop’s battery has always been a challenge for both PC manufacturers, chip makers and even software giants. So after the first two have done their bit it is indeed up to developers to help extend battery life on portable computing machines. And what would be the most used piece of software on any laptop? Well, it’s the web browser. And with so many players in the space (Opera, Mozilla, Microsoft) it was high time Google’s Chrome proved that it was not the most power hungry browser in the business, an image that it has been trying to shed for long. Google recently put up a post with a video on its official Chrome Blog detailing how much its Chrome browser has changed in a year and what the recent updates bring to the user. Google focused on the desktop build of the browser and mentioned how speed was always a priority for Chrome and how all of its efforts have resulted in a browser that is now 15 percent faster on desktop and mobile.

Coming to the important bit, Google put out a simple video, similar to the one Microsoft pushed out sometime back to tell the world how much of a difference the new Chrome 53 is over Chrome 46 from 2015. The same post points out that Chrome for Mac “now uses 33 percent less power for everything from videos and images to simple page scrolling.” All in all Chrome 53 delivered an additional 2 hours and 12 minutes of video streaming (using Vimeo HD) on a single charge using a Microsoft Surface Book. Additionally, the post also shed some light on how it has brought seamless payments to its Chrome browser on Android, (including support for Android Pay) by adding support for the PaymentRequest web standard (where supported).
