Google rolls out Tap to Translate for Android, offline mode for iOS

Google just rolled out Tap to Translate for Android phones. This puts the power of Google Translate into all apps, with a simple one tap button for translating. The app works globally, wherever text is copy pasted. The feature is application agnostic, and meant for immediately translating copy pasted. The feature was designed keeping forwards, chats and song lyrics in mind. A persistent and handy translator can be useful in group discussions where a few are using another language, or to communicate with someone using the smartphone if there are no common known languages. Tap to Translate can translate between all 103 Google Translate languages. ![Google tap to translate573431585457f401087980](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/573431585457f401087980.gif) The new roll out had something for iOS users as well. Offline mode, which had been available in Android for a while has finally made it to the app store. Google has reduced the file size of the language modules used for offline translation. This requires a one time download, after which the translations from and to the chosen languages can be done offline. The footprint of these language modules in the application has been reduced. This is to be conservative on the bandwidth of users, as well as occupy less space on the system. The size of each offline translation language package is 25MB, a reduction of around 90 percent. There are 52 languages available for offline translation. Google also rolled out Word Lens for the Chinese Language. Any text graphics in chinese can be scanned by the smartphone. Those graphics are replaced with English versions in real time. This futuristic feature is only available for Chinese as of now.
