Remember the rather odd glitch in the update to the latest version of Android that we reported about recently? Well, Google has promised that a fix would be available soon. In an official post, Google has acknowledged that it discovered a bug in the app update that left out the month of December in the People app. The niggling bug facing users of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean clearly meant that those with birthdays, anniversaries or other important events scheduled for the month would be left in an odd spot. Google writes in its post, “We discovered a bug in the Android 4.2 update, which makes it impossible to enter December events in optional fields of the People app (this bug did not affect Calendar). Rest assured, this will be fixed soon so that those of you with December birthdays and anniversaries won’t be forgotten by your friends and family.”
The app with the missing month
This app comes as a stock application, and is a part of the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Several users began posting on the AOSP about the glitch in the app with the screenshots. At the time of the bug surfacing, Android Police reported, “After digging through the AOSP source, I think the bug can be likely found in one of these commits, probably in the packages/apps/Contacts/src/com/android/contacts/datepicker/DatePicker.java file - if you spot it, definitely drop a note in the comments. I think it has to do with adjusting for indexes that start with 0 - “off by 1” bugs are quite common.”
Google announced Android 4.2 last month, and this version still retains the Jelly Bean branding like Android 4.1. The camera app of Android 4.2 now features the Photo Sphere, which enables users to take high resolution, 360-degree photographs on all axes, giving the pictures a look much like Google Street View. You will instantly be able to share the photograph on whatever medium you desire, including Google Maps, if you want to make the picture public.
The new keyboard, making its debut in Android 4.2, supports gesture-typing. This allows you to type out words without having to tap on the screen, and instead, sliding your finger across the keyboard over letters that are part of the word. This is a lot like the Swype keyboard by Nuance that is commonly found pre-installed on Samsung devices.
Another big feature in the new version is the ability to have multiple profiles for tablets. This allows users to share their tablets without the fear of having their privacy compromised due to another person using the same device. Users can have a separate profile with different accounts, settings, and apps, for different members of the family, for instance. Schools could use the same tablets for different children from different classes.
