Unless you are using a service such as Truecaller, you will rarely come to know if the call coming your way is a genuine one or just a spam call. Sure there are some numbers which you may have registered under the ‘Do not call’ list, but there are many others yet to see that action. Google has decided to do something about it and will release its updated Phone app for Nexus and Android One devices with built-in spam warnings. This feature will be part of the phone app’s Caller ID feature, which according to Google maintains a robust directory of various businesses. Whenever you get a call from one of the suspected services, you will be shown the number on a red banner with a note telling you that the call is coming from a ‘Suspected Spam Caller’. Post the call, you can either block the number and report it as a spammer. Or alternatively, you could mark the number as legit for yourself. This feature will be seen on the Google Phone app version 4.0. So far it is only expected to roll out on Nexus devices and Android One handsets. Hopefully other devices will get the feature soon.
