Google Now fans will love this new development. The predictive mobile assistant from Google has now made its way from Android to the company’s browser, Chrome, which means that you will now be able to get Google Now notifications and reminders on your desktop as well.
The catch however, is that you should be using the beta version of Chrome on Mac, Windows or Chromebook in order to enable Google Now notifications. You will also need to sign in to Chrome with the same Google account you’re using for Google Now on Android or iOS.
The announcement of Google Now coming to desktops was made by Travis Skare, Software Engineer for Google on Chrome’s blog.
To view notifications on Chrome, simply click on the bell icon on your desktop browser of your Windows or Mac PC to open the Chrome notification center. If you’re using a Chromebook, you will only need to click on the numbered box.
Google assures that you will see relevant cards as and when you need them, even on the desktop. This ranges from telling you how long it will take you to get home from office, what traffic is like on your preferred route, whether your flight is on time and even how your favourite sports team has been performing. it also gives you article and news recommendations based on what you have been most frequently searching for and reading.
In case you feel that you do not need this information, you can dismiss the card, which helps Google try to understand what you find relevant and when. You can switch Google Now off by clicking on the gear icon in the notifications center and unchecking the box next to Google Now. The service will currently be supported only in English, but Google has plans to introduce the feature in other languages soon too.
You can learn more about Google Now notifications and how to configure settings from Google’s Help Center.
