Google Maps to charge for use

From the 1st of January, 2012 onwards, Google will start charging for its Maps API usage. According to the BBC , when more than the limit of 25,000 hits are made in a day, Google may start charging $4 (approx Rs.198) for every 1,000 hits over the limit. This change will likely affect 0.35 percent of the users. It will primarily affect travel agents, who use maps to describe tourist destinations to their customers. Google says they understand that developers need time to figure out what this change means for them and take appropriate action. However, Google’s concern is that Maps as a venture remains viable even used by the highest volume for-profit websites.

More than just providing the option of maps in 3D on iOS devices, it is to remove the need to utilize the maps service of its competitor, Google. With the latest iOS devices being powered by A4 and A5 chips, the devices will certainly support 3D maps and this might very well be the future of iOS maps.

She does get excited by her iPhone and her iMac and her iPod Nano and her Macbook and Bali's iPad and her future iHouse (patent pending). Ok, so maybe her head is a little bit forbidden fruit shaped. She likes shooting video (iPhone 4 camera zindabad!) and editing montages (Final Cut Pro zindabad!), whether the scene calls for it or no. In her spare time, she's either kicking it on stage with KB the keyboard or kicking butt at Taekwondo.
