It’s finally official. Google has jumped onto the flat icon bandwagon too and officially acknowledged that it is going to adopt a new look for its iconic logo after weeks of denial.

In a blog post on the Google Search blog, Eddie Kessler, Tech Lead/Manager for Google wrote about the many changes that were coming to the Google bar. Most importantly, Google is rolling out a new sleek App Launcher style navigation bar across all its products.

In the past week or so, you may have noticed that a new navigational bar that contains links to all major Google products. Previously, these shortcuts were arranged onto a horizontal bar on the top of the page. If you were on most of Google’s properties, the bar would appear providing a shortcut for you to jump onto any of those. These links now open up as a neat dropdown, quite like it does on the Chrome OS.

In a small paragraph at the end of the post, Kessler also acknowledged that the company has refined the colour palette and letter shapes of the Google logo, as part of this design. The new logo will be rolling out to more Google products over the next few weeks.

The new logo had been spotted by a few people on Google’s home page and they were surprised by its rather flat appearance. Google had been reluctant to comment upon this change and only said that it kept experimenting with its products and the logo was a part of it. We guess it’s the season for major makeovers for everyone from Yahoo! to Apple now!

Her focus is on all the happening stuff in the tech domain, and she won't hesitate to take a shot at some of the oddball devices that make their way to our labs.
