Google lets you beat the travel blues with Wi-Fi only mode, SD card download option

Google has put out a blogpost officially talking about some new Maps features that could make things easier for users. While the Wi-Fi only mode is not exactly new , Google did make it official, along with a new feature that lets you save downloaded maps to an SD card. [caption id=“attachment_326615” align=“aligncenter” width=“640”]  Image : Android Police[/caption] Previously known as ‘offline areas’, the new ‘Wi-Fi only’ toggle does what it states, which is to disconnect the Maps app from your cellular or data network. Google, however, states in a small pop-up that the Maps app may still use a small amount of data during operation. Upon switching the toggle on, a blue bar appears at the top of the screen to inform users that the app is in Wi-Fi only mode.  Additionally, Google understands how difficult it is for users to take Maps offline since they do take up quite a bit of space. So for all those smartphone users who are stuck with 8GB of internal storage, Google has made offline maps convenient, by letting you save your offline maps to an external SD card instead of the smartphone’s internal storage. With this Google hopes that more users will be able to take Google Maps offline and save plenty of maps to their often larger, external storage cards. Adding to this, Google has also added more ride service options (apart from Uber) for some countries. The search giant states that all of the above options will make it easier for travellers to not just get around foreign lands but also compare ride prices and save on some much needed battery life!
