Google is now rolling out a new, redesigned Zagat website and Android and iOS apps, bringing the best restaurants and nightspots at its users’ fingertips. Zagat ratings and reviews are now available for free, no need for registration.
On the new Zagat site, users will find the latest news and videos, curated lists, and search and map-based browsing to help them find what they’re looking for.

A glimpse of the redesigned site
Gannon Hall, Group Product Manager and Head of Zagat says that the redesigned service now covers restaurants and nightlife in nine cities, and they have plans to take it to 50 cities in the US and other international destinations. Moving further they also plan to cover arenas like shopping, hotels, and other places of interest. Zagat’s existing ratings and reviews will soon be available on Zagat.com too, confirms the official post.
“For more than 34 years we’ve been surveying passionate locals about the places that matter to them most. This is the foundation on which Zagat was built—and we hope that through our featured surveys on Zagat.com, you’ll continue to share your opinions with us as you rate and review the places you visit,” Hall elaborates .
Despite the new look, all doesn’t seem well with Zagat and the dissent is apparent in the comments section of the post. If you used Zagat in the past, you’ll know what we’re talking about. Reviews and content from major metros have all disappeared from Zagat, except for those from nine chosen metros. Users residing in cities other than the ones now supported by Zagat have voiced their displeasure too. One comment reads, “Not impressed. How do I search in a city other than the eight you have listed? Can’t find reviews or ratings. Is Zagat only going to be reviewing restaurants in eight cities? Really? Useless site for me now.” Voicing a similar sentiment, another user writes, “Really? And if I’m not travelling in one of those cities you’ve got nothing for me? Agree with others. Useless.”
