Google is now using artificial intelligence and machine learning to predict flight delays

It has been a while since  Google has been adding flight details learned from emails into Google Now cards. The company has now stepped up its flight search engine to inform users of delays, if any, and is using artificial intelligence and machine learning to do so. Image: Google[/caption] Google’s new update to the flight search engine not only informs users of delays but also provides an explanation to what is causing the delay. According to a report by Engadget, Google’s feature uses machine learning algorithms to gain flight history information in order to forecast a possible delay. Once Google detects a minimum of 80 percent chance of its prediction coming true, it flags the flight to alert the user. The company does, however, warn the user to reach the airport on time, in order to avoid missing any last-minute changes. Google’s flight search engine allows users to track the status of a particular flight by searching for it through the flight number or the airline and flight route. Users can spot information on a possible delay once the search is run. Another part of the update, which is currently restricted to the US, is the ability to see an outline of the amenities and their fare breakdown while travelling via a budget airline.
