 "Google I/O 2013 to kick off on May 15")
Google I/O is one of the biggest developer events in a calendar year and at this event, Google will unveil its latest operating system as well as some new hardware, like they usually do. The Google I/O 2013 event will take place from May 15-17, 2013 at Moscone Center West in San Francisco.
An announcement on the Google+ page of Google Developers states, “It might only be December, but Google I/O 2013 is set and is just 162 days away! We’ll be returning to Moscone Center West in San Francisco on May 15-17, 2013, and sharing the experience beyond via Google Developers Live and I/O Extended viewing parties. We’ll announce registration details in February 2013.”
At this year’s Google I/O 2012 event, the tech giant announced Google officially took the wraps off Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, a successor to their last year’s operating software Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating software had been touted as a huge improvement over Ice Cream Sandwich and the first device that received the update was the Google Nexus 7 tablet.
The dates have been revealed
At the time of the announcement of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Google stated that Jelly Bean builds on top of Ice Cream Sandwich. This OS makes everything smoother, faster and more fluid. Elaborating on this feature, they stated that if one is late for a meeting or has missed a call, then they can send an e-mail or call directly from notifications. With Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Google claimed that the keyboard is smarter and more accurate, and can predict the user’s next word. Another interesting feature is that voice typing is faster, working even when one does not have a data connection.
On the hardware front, the biggest announcement was the 7-inch tablet, the Nexus 7. Talk of the price being paramount to the tablet’s success had been going on since then. Google added a lot of high-end hardware to the mix, and had kept the price down to a minimum by pricing it at $199 for the base model (8GB) which had been later scrapped with the 16GB version being the base version and also sold at the price of the previous 8GB version.
As for the specifications, Google’s Eric Schmidt had said last year that the Nexus 7 would be a high quality tablet, and Google has delivered on all counts. This model comes equipped with a 7-inch IPS display that boasts of a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core Tegra 3 chip. It has a 1GB RAM, which should be able to match up with the best in the business. This tablet should be a gamer’s delight, and Google has touted it to be a serious gaming device as the brand has added a 12-core Nvidia GeForce GPU as well to the fray.
The Nexus 7 announced at the Google I/O 2012 event had connectivity options such as Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth, and NFC. This tablet also comes with Google Wallet pre-installed. As for the camera featured here, it comes as no surprise that Google has just added only a front-facing camera that can be used for video calls, but what is interesting is that this camera can shoot HD 720p videos.
When it comes to the size, this 7-inch tablet measures 198.5 x 120 x 10.5mm and weighs 340 grams.
