Google is urging developers to submit their educational apps to its Play for Education platform. The search giant had announced it only last month, during its I/O conference.
For those who don’t know, Google Play for Education allows developers and content providers to serve K-12 educators and students in the United States through an Android-based initiative. Starting now, developers can use the Google Play Developer Console to mark the apps they wish to include in the platform. Marking apps ensure that the app is aimed at US’ K-12 education market and the process even lists them for evaluation by a third-party network of educators. These educators carry out a first-pass qualification of the apps first, and give them their suitable subject, grade and common core standards metadata.
Inviting developer submissions for Play for Education
Even as they carry out these tests, educators will take care to ensure apps meet Google’s criteria for classroom use. As it is now, Google’s Play for Education platform is being actively tried out in schools across the United States. Google says it will continue to do so till the Play for Education platform launches in fall. Schools and students in the US will be a part of these extensive pilot tests too.
If you’re a developer keen on having your app listed on Google’s Play for Education but don’t know how to go about, check out the Guidelines for Apps. Taking this check will ensure that your submission fits K-12’s criteria. It will also tell you if your app is optimised for use on Android tablets.
