Detaching Hangouts on Air from Google+ seems like a long awaited move. It is not the first and definitely not the last.

Google+ Hangouts on Air to move to YouTube from 12 September

In what appears to be interesting news that most people would not even care about, Hangouts on Air will cease to exist on Google+ from 12 September. While we wonder who in their right mind would still be using the services, Google made things clear that it is moving its resources to its more “resourceful” YouTube live service. Google was brutally straightforward about shifting the service, which was unveiled in 2011, “Hangouts On Air will move from Google+ to YouTube Live on September 12. If you want to schedule new Hangouts On Air you will need to use YouTube Live. Events cannot be scheduled on Google+ after September 12 and you will need to move existing events scheduled to happen after September 12 to YouTube Live.” pointed out its support team. Indeed YouTube Live is a much better option, one that picked up in May of 2013 and as of today even caters to a much larger audience. Hangouts On Air users will simply have to use YouTube Live’s scheduling feature instead of the currently available Google+ interface. While detaching Hangouts on Air from Google+ seems like a long awaited move. It is not the first and definitely not the last. Users may have noticed how the search giant has been separating its services from Google+ social network. Photos was the first to go and the service is now available as a standalone app (available on iOS and Android). That was in July 2015, but just last week Google even broke away its Play Store from the earlier mandatory login requirement in order to review and rate apps. Is Google+ soon going to shut down? Well, for now there has been no official news (or even a hint about the same). Also, it is easy to see how Google+ has a long way to go before it even dreams of getting close to Facebook’s success in the same field. In short, it has not exactly been a successful product keeping in mind the competition. Oddly, though the news comes shortly after the  rollout of Google’s new video chat client called Duo. Next to launch would be a messaging app called Allo, which was unveiled at Google I/O earlier this year. So after Google+, is Hangouts next on the list? May be, but just for the general public, as Google already has plans to use Hangouts for its business offerings.
