Google has announced that it is officially retiring the old version of Google Groups and introducing a new, revamped version that will bring an improved user experience a well as a shared inbox feature along with it. These brand new groups are up and ready for all Google users now.
In a blog post announcing the launch of the new Groups, Google explained that it had been working on improving the experience of this service for the past year. For those not in the know, Google Groups is a handy tool to keep a group of users with common interests in the loop of activities. You could have a Google Group for your office, college or group of friends where you can post updates and have discussions.

New groups!
Users can now create an inbox to share, distribute and track responsibilities with other group members. Say you have a Google Group that involves members of your college magazine. You will be able to create a common ID to interact with advertisers and receive fan mails. With this single email address, the members of your group will be able to manage mails, assign items and mark items as done. This will cut out the need for sharing passwords completely.
Google has also added several new moderation tools that aim to make forum management more hassle free. You can now use ‘canned responses’ in forums as well as use streamlined options to make moderation easier. In a great new addition, Google Groups will also be available on Google’s mobile website where you can browse and moderate easily. You can start using Google Groups right away by heading on to groups.google.com. Your old groups will still be there, waiting for you.

Intrigued by all things social, Nishtha will invariably tweet about you. When not tweeting or writing about the next viral video, you will hear her proclaiming her love to Metallica, James Hetfield, Opeth, Akerfeldt and all bands that go 'growl'. She also obsesses about ACP Pradyuman and South Park and you will always find her moving around with a book. Her focus is on all the happening stuff in the tech domain, and she won't hesitate to take a shot at some of the oddball devices that make their way to our labs.
