Google has announced that it will give the first 100 testers of the Project Ara, a modular phone for free. Project Ara, as we know is a phone with swappable components, which aims to be a cost effective solution to stay up-to-date with the latest tech components. For example, if you need a phone with a a faster processor to keep up with new demanding apps, you’ll only need to buy a new processor module rather than upgrade to a brand new phone. Project Ara is now in beta stage and, as a sign of encouragement to enthusiastic testers, Google will be giving away 100 testers or ‘scouts’ a prototype as it had promised earlier. The scouts have been asked to share their feedback and suggestions to help Google perfect the device’s capabilities and help iron out the glitches. The statement says “Over the next 8 months, Google will continue to refine the Ara prototype.” This puts the release date of the device somewhere round March 2015. Project Ara is one of Google’s many ambitious projects , along side the Project Tango – which will allow users to 3D scan their surrounding with a 7-inch tablet, and Project Athena that aims to create a new user experience for Google’s web browser Chrome. Though Google sold Motorola to Lenovo earlier this year, it kept Motorola’s so-called best division, the Advanced Technology and Projects group. That’s responsible for Project Ara and Tango is a part of.
