Google+ gets Snapseed-powered image editor on desktop Chrome

Google has announced more photo editing tools for sharing images on Google+. The Internet giant is finally going to make ample use of its purchase of Snapseed last year to add that extra oomph to the images you upload on Google +.

The tools, based on Snapseed’s muscle power will be available in Chrome for now, and will let you play around with the image you’re trying to upload as well as edit it. According to a Google+ post by Google’s Josh Hoftel, you can choose to use the Auto-Enhance tool that will, as the name suggests, makes the pictures you add to Google+ look automatically great. You can now even customise and fine-tune adjustments in this mode if you’re not fully satisfied with the look.

You can even add filters

There’s the selective adjust tool that lets you make edits to only specific parts on your image and leave the others intact. So say you have to edit an image you clicked on your hike, you can make the sky look a little more blue to draw focus to it, without having to manipulate colours in the rest of the image. You can also add filters like Vintage, Drama, Retrolux or Black and White to give them a new look if you’re Instagram-crazy. Also add a frame to the pictures with the same tool to finish off.

In order to edit pictures and try these new tools, you can open one of your own pictures in Chrome and click on “edit” once the lightbox opens. In case you’re not satisfied with the changes, you can always revert to the original image.

Like we mentioned earlier, these tools are only available to you if you’re using Google Chrome. This is because the browser contains Native Client technology, something that other browsers lack. If you’re using any other browser, you have limited editing abilities and can merely crop and rotate pictures. Of course, mobile users can still make use of the “Snapseed-inspired editing” on both iOS and Android apps of Google+. If you log in to the social network on Chrome and are yet to see these options, do not worry. Google is rolling them out gradually so you will get them soon.
