Google Drive for iOS received a major update earlier this week, thanks to which you will now be able to upload multiple images and videos to Drive. The update has also added new features to Google Docs, Sheets and Slides for improved performance.
The update bumps Google Drive to version 1.2.2, and lets you upload multiple photos and videos together. QuickOffice users can now open and save back to Drive too.
This update also addresses font support issues in Google Docs, and the Helvetica Neue fonts are now supported.
Say hello to new features
The update also gives you the ability to format cells in Sheets. Users can now format cells to denote decimals, currency, dates and more using Drive’s spreadsheet feature. The update to Sheets includes the ability to scroll diagonally. This is bound to help people who work with heavy spreadsheets to scroll through data faster.
Slides has received improved slideshows and animations, and you can pinch-to-zoom on individual slides.
Google Drive added support for spreadsheets on mobile in November last year. Google Drive received a new native editor that lets you create a new spreadsheet or edit an existing one right from the Drive app on your iPhone, iPad or Android device. With Sheets on your phone, you can switch fonts, resize columns, sort data and do much more. And just like on the full-fledged browser interface, you can see other people’s edits and comments in real time.
The app was then updated to let you create a shortcut to Drive files and folders on your homescreen. This allows you to directly access files and folders from shortcuts on the homescreen instead of having to navigate to the Drive app, opening it and then browsing to the desired file or folder. This feature can be quite useful if you have a truckload of files and folders stored on Drive.
Google Drive for iOS works well with both the iPad and the iPhone. You initially get 5GB worth of space to share your files, images, videos on Google Drive, along with the ability to create and edit Word, PowerPoint and Excel documents. According to the Apple App Store, the top in-app purchase is 25GB of space on Google Drive, which costs $24.99 (Rs 1375 approx.), showing just how popular the storage service is on handsets.
