Google Doodle pays tribute to Leo Tolstoy on 186th birthday

Google has dedicated today’s Google Doodle to Russian writer and philosopher Leo Tolstoy to mark his 186th birth anniversary. Leo Tolstoy was born on 9th September 1828 and died from pneumonia at Astapovo train station at the age of 82 on 20 November 1910.   The doodle slideshow begins with an image of a bearded Tolstoy where he is seen writing at his desk by candlelight. The following slides present scenes from his most famous works, including War and Peace, Anna Karenina and The Death of Ivan Ilyich.  

  Tolstoy primarily wrote novels and short stories. Later in life, he also began writing plays and essays. The scenes depicted in the doodle are some of the most iconic from the three works chosen by Google. And we really love the art style that very much reminds us of Soviet animations from the past. In all, it’s a very true depiction that manages to add some atmosphere and a lot of sobriety to the otherwise light-hearted doodles.
