The festive season is almost upon us and there’s no better way to kickstart the holidays and give everyone a friendly reminder, than a cute new Google Doodle that showcases some jolly alphabets carolling to their heart’s content. Titled “’tis the season” the fresh, new animated Google Doodle will be the first of many to come going by Google Doodle tradition that the search giant releases on every day of the holidays. The doodle showcases six characters that form the word ‘Google’ singing out joyfully, while quiet old ’l’ has been given the triangle (musical instrument). While we wish we could hear them sing, its fun to see everyone wait for ’l’ to light up and hit the triangle, striking the right note for the rest to continue singing.
The tradition of carolling is a rather old one and dates back thousands of years. Historically known as Christmas hymns, these can be traced back to as far as 4th century Rome. It was only in the 12th century where a Parisian monk St. Victor derived music from popular songs, that have the rhythm and the tunes that many carols follow today. These were originally communal songs that were sung during celebrations like the harvest and Christmas. The church adopted these songs a lot later which is why not all of them may have religious references.
Back to the doodle, Google has two of them. The second one for countries with warm climates like Brazil, Australia and the lot that features the same carollers on the beach. There’s also an alternate ending for the Google Doodle mentioned above. Check it out below
All-in-all, it’s all about spreading joy and happiness, which is were we wish all of our readers ‘Happy Holidays’ and a great festive season ahead!
