Google India has dedicated today’s doodle to honour teachers in various fields on its search page today. Today’s Google Doodle – a hat tip to Teacher’s Day which is being celebrated in India – is reminiscent of classroom days with each letter colourfully denoting a peculiar teacher-like figure. The G is made to look like a serious principal sitting at her desk, while the O is a maths professor writing on a board. The next letter depicts a story-teller narrating to a bunch of pupils, the next G denotes a typical pose of a gym instructor, followed by a chemistry professor and a maestro. While Teacher’s Day is celebrated on different days in many countries, India celebrates it on September 5 to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan - a renowned scholar, who was also the second President of India. Similarly, in other countries, people celebrate Teacher’s Day after a local educator or an important milestone in education. For example, Argentina celebrates Teacher’s Day to commemorate educationalist Domingo Faustino Sarmiento’s death on September 11. However, World Teachers’ Day is observed on October 5 and UNESCO has been observing October 5 as World Teachers’ Day since 1994 to honour educationists.
