Even while the service isn’t live yet, it has begun rolling out to some users already, displaying features beyond the ones listed by Google. Screenshots show the ability to remote lock the stolen phone, in addition to letting users change their screen lock password and – in worst case scenarios – erase all data.

Google announced the Android Device Manager last week, a welcome move for all Android users who’re worried about losing their beloved phones in the past. The Device Manager, which will be made available to all phones running Android 2.2 and up, will let you remotely locate your phone via a web interface. Even if your phone is on silent, hitting the ring button will make your phone ring at the maximum volume so you can figure where it is. You will also be able to locate your device on a map in real time.

In case you’re unable to locate your phone and are sure that it’s lost forever, you can save your data and private information from falling in wrong hands by choosing to wipe all the data off from your device. Of course, this decision needs to be taken under extreme circumstances, considering you will not be getting your data back on the device even if you recover it.
