With Google Reader’s imminent shutdown approaching, the Internet giant has released an update for the iOS version of Google Currents that brings it up to speed with the Android app.
Google has upped Currents for iOS to version 2.1 and is bringing along features like pinch-to-zoom on photos and vertical pagination to the application. Firstly, and most importantly, Google Currents for iOS has gained support for Audio Playlist for editions. You will now be able to hear audio clips easily with the app in addition to the playback features that it already has.
Now with more features
The update brings along important and much-needed features liken vertical scrolling too. Google Currents will display articles in a vertical scrolling format and will allow you to pinch-to-zoom on pictures to view it better. Better late than never, we say!
Google deciding to put all its weight behind Currents even as Reader breathes its last is a little puzzling but hints at bigger things in store for the service. The Internet giant could well be trying to integrate Currents with its other services in the near future. The social magazine application was launched back in December 2011 but has failed to gain the massive following that its step sibling, RSS news aggregator Reader had.
The service may or may not turn out to be Google’s next-big-thing, but you can grab hold of Google Currents for iOS from the App Store for now. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad running iOS 6.0 and later and is optimised for iPhone 5.
