Google always plans out some good gestures marking the anniversaries of events or birthdays and shares it with the entire world with its doodles. The latest Google doodle pays tribute to Mangalyaan - India’s Mars Orbiter Mission, which has completed a month in orbit today. It’s a simple doodle and there are no live animations as we have seen with some doodles in the past . The Indian orbiter entered Mars orbit successfully on 23rd September making it a proud moment for India. Mangalyaan made headlines as India was the first country to send mission to Mars in its maiden attempt . By launching Managalyaan, the Indian Space Research Organisation became the fourth International space agency after the American National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Russian Federal Space Agency (RFSA) and European Space Agency to undertake a mission to Mars. Mangalyaan has been one of the cheapest missions which cost an approximate $74 million. When you compare it to the Hollywood blockbuster Gravity, the movie had a budget of $100 million. NASA’s latest mission to Mars called MAVEN, which had reached Mars ahead of the Indian satellite cost almost ten times more. Mangalyaan has scientific instruments such as a camera, a photometer, methane sensor for Mars, thermal infrared imaging spectrometer and a mass analyser. According to ISRO, the scientific objective of the mission is, “Exploration of Mars surface features, morphology, mineralogy and Martian atmosphere by indigenous scientific instruments.” India has been the first Asian country which has gained a lead over many others which have failed in their mission to Mars. There is lot more the world can expect in terms of information and images from Mangalyaan . The Mars Orbiter Mission has its own Twitter account - @MarsOrbiter - which keeps sharing images and other updates with the general public. The Mars Orbiter Mission was launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on 5 November, 2013, from the country’s only spaceport at Sriharikota off the Bay of Bengal.
