Google just introduced a new feature in its calendar app, called Goals. The announcement coincides with its 10th anniversary. Goals lets you set a goal by picking from a list of preset options, including working out and learning a new language. You can also specify your own goal.
Goals are now available in the add button, along with reminder and event. After that, users have to set a periodicity for the activity. The options are once a week, twice a week, three times a week, five times a week and every day. Users then have to set a timing for the activity, the available options are 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour and 2 hours. These cannot be customised. Next users have to choose a best time for working towards the goal, this can be morning, afternoon, evening or any time.
Google Calendar then schedules the activity. If there is a conflict with another scheduled event, the goals are automatically put in another available slot. You can also defer your goal when it comes up, and reschedule it. Google is using machine learning to improve the effectiveness of the feature, the more you use it. The feature is available only on mobile devices as of now.
